The widespread application of aluminum alloys has promoted the development of aluminum alloy welding technology, and at the same time, the development of welding technology has expanded the application field of aluminum alloys. Therefore, the welding technology of aluminum alloys is becoming one of the research hotspots. Low density of pure aluminum（ ρ= 2.7g/m3), approximately one-third of that of iron, with a low melting point (660 ℃). Aluminum has a face centered cubic structure and therefore has high plasticity（ δ: 32-40%, ψ: 70-90%), easy to process, can be made into various profiles and plates. Good corrosion resistance; But the strength of pure aluminum is very low, and it is in an annealed state σ The value of b is about 8kgf/mm2, so it is not suitable for use as a structural material. Through long-term practice and scientific experiments, people have gradually strengthened aluminum by adding alloying elements and using heat treatment methods, resulting in a series of aluminum alloys. The alloy formed by adding certain elements can maintain the advantages of pure aluminum, such as lightweight, while also possessing high strength, σ The b values can reach 24-60kgf/mm2, respectively. This makes its "specific strength" (the ratio of strength to specific gravity) σ B/ ρ） Compared to many alloy steels, it has become an ideal structural material and is widely used in mechanical manufacturing, transportation machinery, power machinery, and aviation industry. The fuselage, skin, and compressor of aircraft are often made of aluminum alloy to reduce self weight.

By using aluminum alloy instead of steel plate material for welding, the structural weight can be reduced by more than 50%. Aluminum alloys with a silicon content between 8% and 12% are a transitional zone, and can use either ordinary hard alloys or diamond cutting tools. However, when using hard alloys, tools that have undergone PVD (physical coating) method, do not contain aluminum elements, and have a smaller film thickness should be used. Because the PVD method and small film thickness make it possible for the tool to maintain a sharp cutting edge (otherwise, to avoid abnormal growth of the film layer at the edge, sufficient passivation of the edge is required, and the cutting aluminum alloy will not be sharp enough), and the film material containing aluminum may cause the blade film layer to have an affinity with the workpiece material, damaging the bonding between the film layer and the tool substrate. Because the current superhard coatings are mostly compounds of aluminum, nitrogen, and titanium, it is possible that a small amount of peeling off of the hard alloy substrate with the film layer may cause edge breakage.
